In England the original steelbands were based in inner cities, where there was a large population from the West Indies. These bands became popular as a form of entertainment at private functions, venturing out into the suburbs and even some rural areas.
Playing steelpan at carnivals has also increased its popularity. These open events allowed people from near and far to come and watch the steelbands in action.
Now there are many public events, annual competitions and festivals which set many platforms for the steelband to grow further.
If you have an event that you would like to post on this website, please email your details.
