Steelpan Terminology

 

The spelling of certain words in connection to steelpans does not correlate with the English tradition.

A UK spell check of steelpans offers steelpan or steel pans as alternatives or possible correct spelling. 


Many Trinidadian words are written in Trinidadian Vernacular English, which is in harmony with its cultural history.

Other words that require cultural spelling are panyard, steelband, panstick, panman, panmen, panwoman, panwomen and pannist(s).
