Pan Trinbago Inc

Pan Trinbago, the world’s governing body for steelpans is located in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Its main objective is to focus on the promotion and development of the steelpan and all pannists worldwide.

Pan Trinbago’s first News Update for steelpan enthusiasts was published in April 1993 under the leadership of the then president, Owen Serrette.

Some of the opening features in this publication were:

  • An update on the development of Trinidad and Tobago Instruments Ltd (TTIL). This company was a joint venture between Ajax Manufacturing and Fabricating Limited (a subsidury of Neal Massey Limited) and the Metal Industries Limited (MIC). Its principal aim was to market, sell and promote steelpan instruments and accessories both nationally and internationally. In 2006, TTIL was renamed Panland Trinidad and Tobago Ltd, but more commonly known as Panland.

  • A report on Steelband week in Toronto in its second year. Pan Trinbago Canada invited four Trinidadian pannists Helen Chay, Wentworth Richardson, Ben Jackson and Dwight Belgrove to Toronto to conduct workshops and give demonstrations on the steelpans.
