The Conventional Steelband

The conventional steelband consists of pans that are suspended from stands, as opposed to the traditional steelband system.  Another name for a conventional steelband is a Steel Orchestra.

The pans in a conventional steelband cover the tonal range of the conventional orchestra.

The pans range from single pans (for example, tenors) to groups of pans (for example, cello pans).

The names of the pans have a relationship to the names of the instruments in a conventional orchestra.

Some of the pans in a conventional steelband are detailed in the pan family.
